THE WALKS
QUEENSTOWN TO MOONLIGHT
VIA MOONLIGHT TRACK
This unguided 4-hour trek follows the Moonlight Track above the Shotover River to the confluence of the Moonlight and Moke Creeks. Follow the path of the merino sheep across the stock bridge and onto the track above the Moonlight River to Ben Lomond Lodge.
VIA BEN LOMOND
Take the gondola from Queenstown and from the top follow the track to the Ben Lomond Saddle, summiting the 1750m Ben Lomond if you wish. Descend to the farm track and meet up with the track above the Moonlight River to Ben Lomond Lodge. This unguided walk will take 5-6 hours, and if you decide to climb Ben Lomond you can add 2 hours to this.
VIA MOKE LAKE
From this beautiful alpine lake and camping reserve follow the farm road to Sefferstown. This old gold mining settlement was once the home of storyteller Barry Crump, and in its heyday in the early 1930’s was home to 1000 hardy souls. Continue on the farm road until you reach the private stock bridge and follow the track above the Moonlight River to Ben Lomond Lodge. This unguided walk will take 4-5 hours.
SHOTOVER TO MOONLIGHT
The 2 day guided Shotover to Moonlight High Country Experience, with overnight accommodation, tracks deep into New Zealand’s spectacular high country on an exclusive wilderness experience. Traverse through the station using abandoned 1860’s gold mining water races. Explore the goldmining history and observe the alpine flora and fauna. Learn about the unique high country story of farming super- fine-woolled merino sheep whilst preserving the beautiful tussock lands.
